The Department of Biotechnology was established in June, 1999 and we are pioneer in offering UG Biotechnology in the region. The department is notable in the Saurashtra-Kutch region of Gujarat, imparting quality education and promoting goal-orientated interdisciplinary perspective by conjugating modern biology with its graduation and post-graduation programs. We are exclusively privileged Department in the state of Gujarat to be awarded UGC assistance for M.Sc. Biotechnology under Innovative Programme- Teaching & Research in Interdisciplinary & Emerging Area since June 2004. The department facilitates the undergraduate students to enroll in various Career Oriented Courses (COCs) such as Plant Tissue Culture, Bioinformatics, Nanotechnology and Competitive Exam Preparation. The department has also received STAR College Scheme from DBT Ministry of Science And Technology, New Delhi in 2009 and has been upgraded to STAR STATUS in 2014. The students also get an opportunity to do various co-curricular courses: Value added course, COC Courses and Generic Elective Courses Discipline Specific Courses alongside Research Project/ Internship /Summer Training. The Department of Biotechnology offers graduate, postgraduate and Ph. D programmes which imparts fundamental as well as real world problem solving approach to its students for the development and betterment of the society.
Over last decade the Department of Biotechnology has engaged students in various beneficial and innovative activities such as Lab to Land, Periodical Newsletters, Creative Assignments, STAR Projects, and Internship Programmes at campus, Earn While You Learn scheme, Research Proposal Writing and SOP preparation for various laboratory instruments.
The department facilitates students with an enormous infrastructure to enable nearly five hundred students each year to learn and explore various aspects of biotechnology with the aid of several sophisticated instruments and techniques.
We are pioneer in exposing students to Plant Tissue Culture, Bioinformatics and Animal Tissue Culture techniques in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. We motivate the students to aim for sustainable development by encouraging recycling of waste into useful products such as Recycled Paper and Flowers' preparation from agriculture waste.
